Hi Y'all - Let's Get Started!

So you've landed where you'll be spending a lot of time this semester. Don't panic - it'll be fun. Really.

What I'd like for you to do today (1/17) is:
  1. Set up a blog of your own - be creative! Make sure that you can add links to the blog and that it's set up to receive comments. You can add pictures of yourself, describe yourself however you'd like, title your blog whatever you like. This is YOUR blog. Hopefully, you'll enjoy writing in it so much that you'll keep on going after this class is over. I know you're probably saying, "Yeah, right," but you just might be surprised!
  2. Once you've set up your blog, I'd like you to read through a few of the blogs posted on the right, here. Get a sense of what blogging is like for some of Memphis's best bloggers. You're a part of this elite, witty, smart group now. Congratulations.
  3. Now, post a comment on THIS blog. Include your real name, your major, a brief description of yourself, and what you expect to get out of this class (250 words).
  4. Finally. Go Home. Research the term "Manifesto." Tell me about some famous (or infamous) manifestos. Then write YOUR MANIFESTO. Make this a cohesive, interesting essay. You can relate yourself to any of the manifestos that you find (make sure to use MLA). 750 word minimum. Post your manifesto on your blog AND drop it into the dropbox of the E-Courseware site by Tuesday morning at 5am.
  5. Have a GREAT weekend.

Yasir Rosli, Maybe Business. I'm a full-time student at U of M, I like to go on youtube.com a lot and read the chaos in the video comments. I enjoy watching soccer, especially the English premier league. I blog when I'm in the mood, I even have a blog on blogspot.com.

What I expect out of this class is a better understanding of how to communicate in English, which would help me advance my career. I had Mr. McClain last semester for English 1010 and at the rate he was going, it was already getting hard to keep up with all the essays. I expect to it to be even more demanding this semester. It's alright, bring it on!

Ole' undecided major lookin'
I am an eccentric (or so "they" say) 18 year old freshman. My time is consumed with goofy musical endeavors and I don't really like being in college, but am going to do my work to the best of my ability this semester. If you're going to do something ya might as well go all out, right?

Last semester I thought English 1010 was going to be reading through some dump-truck-sized Literature textbook and taking easy multiple choice tests about the random and out-dated works we read. Turns out, it was a very liberal yet very cohesive learning experience in which the students were 100% engaged with the material as opposed to glancing over little footnotes in the textbook that said, “What would YOU do in Oedipus’ situation? Discuss with a classmate.” To say the least, it was the opposite of what I expected. I’m not completely sure what English 1020 is all about, because apparently 1010 wasn’t about “classic” works of literature. Looking back I’m still confused as to what the assault on my mind known as English 1010 was all about.
In all honesty, I expect to get a better understanding of… something. That’s the part I’m not sure of. By the end of English 1010 I was able to go, “Oh, okay. We were supposed to learn to read IN to literary works. We learned that writing was about drawing conclusions and connecting to the reader(s) on subconscious levels as well as things on the surface.

Hello! My name is Ryan Manning. I am a second semester freshmen. My major is biomedical engineering. I'm sorry to say that English isn't my favorite
subject. Sorry. I am 19 with brown hair and eyes. I'm slightly cynical, but i have a nice side as well. I like to draw and listen to music. It is fair to say that I have a very extensive music collection. I live in Tennessee, but i was born in California and hope to move back some day. I have family all over the country, but they are mostly concentrated in the Northeast. This is my dad's side of the family, so they are a bunch of crazy Irish-folk. That is my favorite vacation site as of now. I live in the dorms on campus. I'm a big fan of Asian action and horror movies. My dream is to someday travel through the greater part of Asia.
If and when i graduate college, I will be the first in my immediate family to actually graduate with at least a four year degree. So, needless to say, there is a little bit of pressure on me to make something out of myself.
What do i expect out of this class? Well, a passing grade hopefully. Haha. Seriously though. I want to become a become a better writer and possibly a more in depth reader. I figure it'll be useful when I'm reading biological reports in some lab somewhere. I guess that's all for now.

Wendy!!! I hope you enjoyed the break and everything is going well with the family. I'm back for another semester. This semester seems like it's going to be different than the other one as in the work load. Other than that, it seems like it's going to be even more interesting than the last. We're already starting to blog and it's only the second day. I don't know about the daily blogging and commenting though; it seems like it's going to be difficult, but I will have to find the time if I want to pass the course since it is forty percent of our grade. I guess I will tell a little bit about me now.

My name is Jonathan Jefferson and this is my second semester at the University of Memphis. I'm also from Memphis. U of M has been great so far, there is nothing I really don't like about since I'm rarely on campus, but that is the one part that I don't enjoy. I'm not really affiliated with anything. Although the U of M is great, I plan on attending another college next semester, but I'll be taking summer courses here. There really isn't that much to me, I'm a pretty simple guy. I don't like much attention and I don't like to waste time. I'm straightforward for the most part and if I don't agree with something, I'll let you know. If I don't understand, I'll ask.

That's basically me in a nutshell. See you on Tuesday Wendy. 250 words doesn't seem like anything now.

My name is Brandon Gray and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering. I was born in Germany because my father is in the military. Because my father is in the military I have traveled a lot around the world. I have come here from Atlanta, GA were I graduated high school. I have a lot of family that lives out here in Memphis so I'm getting away from my parents but am still close to family.
Since my dad is in the army we have for the most part been far away from family. When we were close we would visit but we were oversees for a large chunk of my life. Other than living oversees I grew up in the south. I wanted to be able to meet a lot of my family here in Memphis because I am constantly hearing that there are a lot of us in this city.
In this class I expect, like in most writing courses, to become a better writer. I believe that the reason I am not the best writer is because though I do enjoy reading from time to time it does not reflect in my speech and my mother is always telling me I need to get out of that habit. I hope this class will help me to constantly improve my skills as a writer. I believe this class can help me tremendously if I work hard enough to complete my assignments ahead of time to make proper revisions.

I'm sorry about the last comment I made. I didn't quite reach the necessary word count. So I'll have to retry if that's okay with you.

My name is Yasir Rosli, and I'm thinking of majoring in Business Administration. Currently, I'm a full time student at University of Memphis and I've been at this university for one semester so far. This is my second semester in college. I love being on this campus, I was in a prison-like kind of high school, it was very crowded, very crowded. I couldn't breathe; people were bumping into me all the way down the hallway. This is no exaggeration either. They have relocated several hundred students out of the high school this year. I'm an alumnus and can not reap the benefits of this decision. It makes me wonder why the school administration did so right after I graduated! I love doing a lot of things. I love using the internet. I'm pretty sure the internet is a blessing from god himself (I'm assuming god prefers being addressed as a male) and this invention has made life for me and millions of others a paradise. I work from there, buy things from there and play games with my friends using the internet. I'll say it again, I love the internet. I like to listen to music, especially music that has not been financed by corporations. I like music people make at home, for fun and for the entertainment of their close peers. I play soccer, or use to play for a league team. I don't know if I'll be able to play this semester because I have too many hours. Manchester United and Arsenal are great teams to watch (English Premier League Teams), I enjoy watching highlights of great games these teams have played. I expect to learn a lot more structure in the way I compose articles and essays. People say that practice makes perfect. Hopefully I'll be able to achieve a new level of mastery with this course. Richard Bausch came by the first day, I felt bad for not knowing who he was. Hopefully the next time a well-known writer visits our class, I'll be ready. I look forward to learning and understanding from my professors and fellow students and hope they will learn just as much from me.

My name is Christa Garcia and I am 18 years old. I am the middle and the first to go to college in my family. I would like to become a better reader and writer. I have a huge fear of writing because I am not that great at it. I often sit at a computer and just stare when I need to complete an assignment. I actually live with my aunt and uncle in Mississippi but, I was raised in Brighton, TN. I work for my uncle at National Pump Co. and I work at Wiseguy's Pizza on the weekends. I am a work fanatic. I cannot wait to become a teacher and then eventually I would like to go into education administration. I was very active in High School but, not so much now. I think I over worked myself.

My name is Nina Nguyen (http://ntnguyn1.blogspot.com/) and I am a Psychology major. This is my fresman year at U of M. I am a manager at a pizza place in Cordova and I spend a good amount of my time there. I have a boyfriend who I have been with for over two years now. I love watching movies and listening to music. Some of my favorite bands are The Beatles, 311, and Nine Inch Nails. I would try to think of some of my favorite movies but there are way too many for me to think about.
What I expect to get out of this class is a more interesting way of looking at language. I have read the manifesto and think that this class will be set up in a very unconventional way, which I am looking forward to. This class is definitely going to be one of my more exciting ones. I am not really sure what to expect about the blogging every week but I think that it wont be too hard to get used to. I know that we are all expected to write the papers that every 1020 class is going to write, but I hope that the topics will be something I have some sort of passion about. In other English classes that I have been in I have had to write some sort of formal paper on a topic that I had no interest in which made it a very long and drawn out process. I think that this class is going to be very interesting and I am kind of excited to get started.

It is really exciting for me to have this great opportunity to study in a foreign country, learn to speak and write English perfectly and work so hard on my professional tennis career.
I expect that this course helps me to improve my writing and speaking skills in standard English, especially punctuation. Moreover, I want to learn how to work with complicated writings and how to analyse different text types.
I wish everybody in this class to have a great semester!

Okay....just realized that my blog should be a little longer, so let me start over. My url is notmean012.blogspot.com. I picked that because most people think that I am mean, but truth is,once you get to know me, I'm actually really fun, and 12 is my favorite number. My name is Asnanti Jones and right now my major is Pharmacy but it is subject to change because I barely passed my last math class, and I am not interested in taking a million chemistry classes. I am considering creative writing or journalism, but I am not sure yet. It's funny that changing my major to something that has to do with writing had to come from my advisor who was basically a complete stranger, when all of this time I've known how much I enjoy creative writing. When I was in the 5th grade, I had a poem published in a book, so that was very interesting. All through school I've enjoyed creative writing and I have never had a problem with making up stories. Let's see...I am a freshman and I live on campus. Right now, I have a job at Torrid in the wolfchase (by the way they are closing on the 27th so if you shop there you should go there now for the sales, and say hello to me if you see me) and I also have a job on campus in the sociology department. I just started it, but everyone is nice so it's okay. I don't know what else to say, so whatever you want to know, feel free to ask.

My name is Macon Wilson and I'm a returning freshman at the University of Memphis. My current major is psychology and I plan to minor in women's studies. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always been interested in psychology. I’ve been studying it even before high school. I just started taking women’s studies and I immediately fell in love with it. I’ve lived in Memphis all of my life and I’m dying to move somewhere after college. I’ve been working as a photographer’s assistant with Angela Ammons Photography for almost three years and I love it. We mostly do weddings, family pictures, and senior pictures. I also do my own independent photography called Twisted Elegance where I focus mainly on glamour and modeling. I also have a small part time job at American Eagle at Wolfchase that I keep pretty much for the discount. Another hobby I love besides photography is reading. I was also on a swim team for over six years and even though I don’t compete anymore, I still have a great passion for it. I’m a big a thinker, I’m constantly analyzing situations and trying to figure out everyone I meet. I’ve also dabbled in writing short stories and little poems. When I was in high school, one of my poems was published in our school literary magazine but I don’t have as much confidence in my writing. I expect my writing and reading skills will grow in this class which will end up helping me in other areas of school and my daily life. My blog url is: http://maconwilson.blogspot.com/

Hi! I am Brooxie Davis. I am an elementary/ special education major. This combined major called Teaching All Learners will allow me to work with K-6 and special education students ages ranging from ages 3-22. I am really excited about this major not only because I love children but also because I want to have the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. I also know that as a student I did not always have the best teachers so I want to be the teacher that every student loves and learns from.

I was born and raised in the Memphis area. I have an older sister who is twenty four
and is in graduate school at Middle Tennessee State University. My mom lives in Germantown and we are very close. I am also a Christian and try to live each day for Him. I went to Germantown schools K-12 grade and graduates from Germantown High School in 2007. I am currently a freshman at the University of Memphis. I am involved with Kappa Delta Sorority and have really enjoyed getting to know so many new girls. I also work for Need A Sitter, a local babysitting company who has many different families as well as college girls to sit. I live in a house about five minutes from campus with three other sorority sisters. I am really enjoying the college experience and the opportunity of meeting new people.

From this English class, I not only expect to become a better writer but I also hope to grow as a person. I want these blogs to help me be able to express myself better. I am also interested in the readings and other outside events we will be attending. I like that this class seems interesting and allows the students to get involved with other students as well as the teacher.

I am hoping to eliminate these horrible habits this semester. I actually attending the University of Memphis because of procrastination. The college of my choice was Middle Tennessee State University because of their wonderful Radio Broadcasting field, but I didn't submit a application until.......August the 4!! So, my mom got me enrolled here and I have to say I like it, but I don't plan on staying after this semester. I am hoping to gain more knowledge about the English language and structure of writing. As I stated earlier, I get lazy, so I am going to try and complete all the assignmentsI am also hoping to pass this class with a B or possible A through hard work. Talk to you later!!!

Hey. My name is Sarah Foster. I am majoring in Teaching All Learners, which is for teaching elementary education and special education.

I was born in Woodbridge, Virgina and moved to the Memphis area, specifically Cordova, when I was two. I am now ninteen and have lived here ever since. I have two older brothers and a younger sister. My oldest brother has just finished graduate school with a masters in physics. He went to the naval academy for college and has now been sent to San Diego. He was married in the summer. My other brother is in his final year of college at Christian Brothers University. He has recently become engaged. My sister is in the seventh grade at Evangelical Christian School.

I attended Riverdale Elementary kindergarten through eighth grade. Then I went to Cordova High School ninth grade through the beginning of junior year. For the last half of my junior year I changed to Evangelical Christian School and remained there until I graduated.

I have grown up participating in recreational basketball. In seventh grade I took up cheerleading which I continued to do through ninth grade.

God is a big part of my life. My religious beliefs are a great influence in my life. I have grown up in church and was priviledged to be raised in a good family. My parents are a big part of my life and I look up to them greatly.

I really look forward to this class. I have never been much of a writer but I really find the bloging to be interesting. I have always liked the thought of having a journal but have never stuck to it. This will be a great way to make myself get in a habit of putting my thoughts on paper, or computer, and be able to look back at them in the future.

Hello. My name is Meghan Lyons. My URL is http://gem98.blogspot.com. My major is Music Performance. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, I haven't completely adapted to the south yet. Although, I can't say that I've had a lot of time to adapt since I've only been attending the University since last fall. I am eighteen years old and I am a freshman here at the University of Memphis. I chose the U. of M. because of an excellent violin teacher and the music school, as well as the scholarship money I received. I have played the violin since I was four years old. Music has always been a huge part of my family; my grandmother, aunt, and cousin also study or have studied the violin. I have one brother, Ryan, who is almost thirteen, and he also plays the cello. All in all, we are a very musical family. If there is one thing you should know about me, it is the things that are most important to me are God, my family and friends, and music. I feel that this class will help me to communicate my ideas more clearly to others, as well as, help me to support my ideas with more concrete examples or facts. I am excited for what this blog opportunity has to offer; it seems to be a great learning tool. Look forward to meeting you Tuesday!

Hi There! My name is Brandi Leatherwood. I am an elementary/teaching all learners major. This major will allow me when i graduate, to apply for a job in elementary education or special education. I'm really excited to be apart of this major. I am 19 years old. I was born on October 13th in Memphis, Tennessee. I have an older sister and brother who are both police officers. My family means everything to me, without them I would be nothing. I am so grateful for them. We are all so close. We usually have dinner every sunday night at my grandparents house. I love the holidays. It's such an exciting time of the year. I am a Christian. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and not to have any regrets. I attended Riverdale Elementary/Middle school. I went there k-8 grade. I then went on to attend Germantown High School all four years. I cheered seven years competitive. I cheered 6-8 grade at Riverdale, one year on an all-star team, and three years at Germantown. While cheering on Germantown, we won the National Championship in Orlando Fl. in 05' and 06'. It was such a great feeling to win, especially BACK to BACK! It's so exciting. My senior year banquet, I recieved the Best All Around Award, which was a good feeling. I also have been dancing for 18 years. My grandmother(dad's mom) owns a dance studio. I take tap, jazz, and ballet. I also have a job. I work at Tan-N-Go. I have been employeed there since August of 2006. Thats a little bit about me.

In this English class this semester, I want to grasp on to writing a little bit more. I want to make my writing better. I can't wait to go to different readings outside of the class. I can tell it's going to be a good semester. I'm really excited for it. See you on Tuesday!!

Hey, guys! I'm Jennifer Vallor and I'm a freshman. I guess you could call me outgoing, but I don't talk a lot. I'm pretty tall for a girl. I like to tan. And I'm somewhat athletic. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so I guess that makes me a Yankee. But at the same time I think I've become pretty accustomed to life in the South. I joined my high school's skeet shooting team (I know, right?) and I like to go to the lake and muddin' every now and then. It sounds nerdy, but I like grammar and proofreading. That's what made me decide to be an English major. And I threw in a Communications major just for practicality. I'm in Phi Mu, Blue Crew, Campus Outreach, and the Honors Program here at Memphis. I try to stay busy because I work best on a routine.

Since I had Wendy last semester, I sort of know what to expect as far as coursework, but I don't think I'll be able to grasp what I've learned until the end of the semester when I can evaluate it. I just want to notice a change in my writing, like I did last semester. I discovered a new realm of freedom of speech that I want to take this semester and run with it. I expect a challenge, not to the point where I'm constantly stressed and pondering if I want out, but where I have to think and push myself a little to make that change in my writing that I talked about earlier. I expect the most beneficial part of this class is its dynamics: I can sit alone and blog and learn and think or I can discuss with my classmates and learn and think. There's so many different channels of thoughts that this semester entails and I want to use them all to my best advantage.

What everyone expects of me is to be different and unique. I have that IT factor that everyone likes. I am one of the most determined people I know. Plan A is to be a well known entertainer and model today and Plan B is to be an overachiever and plan for tomorrow. It should be vice versa but I have such admirations to become that person. I have found myself and I know who I am. My personality ans self esteem is strong and very confident. That"s when I walk in your class, I expect the best. Nothing less. I feel that school is where I need to be even to become that model. It will build my mind and strength me in the right places and not physically. So far, I noticed that this class is going to be different from ones I have had in the past.I like the difference. It's something I look forward to. I plan to pass the class not on just my grade my what I expected to learn and what it has taught me. I have came from a background that has been so low that going up in the only way to go. I am that over achiever who believes anything is possible. I hope to achieve more than just English, but to learn life long goals and things to help make a better me in the future. Hope to see a better me soon.

Hello Ms. Sumner! My name is Tanjarae Weddle. Although my name looks hard to pronounce, it is not at all. My name is pronounce: Tan- ja- ray. However, I preferred to be called Tee or Denise. I am majoring in business and minoring in dance. I picked these two because I would love to own a dance studio one day, as well as creating other business ventures. I am really looking forward to taking classes going toward both my major and minor, especially my minor because dancing is a great passion of mine. I have many accomplishments that I would love to fulfill after graduating from the U of M. After getting my degree here at the U of M, I would like to further my education in dancing by attending the great Alvin Ailey School of Dance in New York City. However, I do plan to earn a higher degree in business. I also plan to get my Master's Degree in Business. I am really looking forward to attending your class. I have heard nothing but great things about you. (My best friend Steve Wilkins Jr., was in your class last semester. :) I think that by taking your class I will become a better writer and will learn how to express my self through my writings appropriately and grammatically correct. I am extremely excited to start blogging. I am a very opinionated person and i absolutely love to express my self through writing. Hopefully by the end of this semester I will be a better writer than I am now.

Hello Ms. Sumner Winter. My name is Brittney Robinson and this is my second semster at U of M. As for my major, I am still undecided though I think it's either going to be Psychology or Art. I really love these two subjects and enjoy learning about them. Hmmm...a brief description of myself? Well, you'll immediately notice I'm very quiet and shy. I go from being very lazy to working really hard randomly. I like to surf the net, listen to music, or draw sometimes. I'll admit, I like to play video games...a lot. It's probably an unhealthy habit, but they're fun. I don't like to watch TV much, and I hate driving. I also have a twin sister who has English the same time as I do, but is in room 311. It's wierd knowing your sister could be doing the same thing you are at the same time...while in English class. We both had Ms. Seratt last semester, and we were in the same class, so it's a bit strange.

Judging from the title of this Class, 'English Comp/Analysis', we will probably be doing a lot of writing, but also analyzing. Last semester we also analzsed what authors wrote, why they wrote it that way, and what they were trying to say. I think I will learn to analyze what authors are trying to say much better, and to effectivley pick out their opinions and ideas from the text. I will probably learn how to argue better, and get a clear idea of what it is someone is really trying to say. I think I will be able to look past all of the rhetoric and fancy language, and really learn what someone is trying to convince me to believe.

See you in class on Tuesday Ms. Sumner Winter, I hope to have a good semester :).

I am the mother of two girls, Rachel and Ariel. Rachel has just graduated from University of Memphis with a major in German. Consequently, she has already went back to Germany. She will be attending school in Berlin to get her ESL certification and hopes to teach there for a while and then go back to get her masters.Ariel is a freshman who is lucky enough to be attending college with her mom. Her biggest horror is probably having a class with me. By the way, my sister, Susan Agee is also a graduate student here.
As for a major, my original intention was to go for a law degree. I have some doubts now as to whether I want to go to school for that long being an older student.
I am also in the real estate profession. This is why I am looking for new options. The real estate market is not very profitable now.
I am also a volunteer DJ at WEVL. I host a program called "Pathways" on Tuesday evenings from six to eight pm. It also repeats on Thursday from two to four pm. I have another blog on this site where I post the playlist to the program.

Hi, my name is Ashli Blow. When I have spare time a few things I enjoy are
reading, practicing piano, and making odd crafts. My friends are very important to me, and I hold them closer than anything else in the world. Over Christmas break I moved into my first apartment with one of my best friends. I work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and am a freelance worker at WKNO as a camera operator. I am double majoring in advertising and broadcasting, although I really haven’t been able to take classes for them because I am still in general education classes. In this class, I hope that I can improve as a writer and that I can write better papers. I have been steadily improving on my skills to write papers and I would like to continue bettering myself. Also, I hope to gain more comprehensive skills so I can analyze text better and absorb more information about them. In contrary to English 1010, I hope that in English 1020 we will read more interesting essays and have more exciting topics to write about. I hope we continue group work, like the other day in class, and will have class workshops on our papers. I’m really excited about the new semester and am ready for more challenges in this English class. By the way, I think the blogs are going to be very fun. My url is http://aboutashli.blogspot.com/. See you soon! - Ashli Blow

My name is Ricky Boatwright and I recieved an associates degree and a media proficency certificate from Mid-South Community College in West Memphis Arkansas. I am a Senior and tried to escape taking this class again because my last instructor misplaced one of my papers and I recieved a D for the course. I will recieve a bachelor degree in film production and a minor in spanish this fall. I have been married for 12 years and we have two daughters. My oldest was premature. She only weighed 2 pounds and 12 ounces. Now you cannot tell she was that small. We named her Chardaesha because I really love the jazz singer Sade and my wife took part of her nieces name and put it with her. She looks like my wife. My youngest (Nytoria) nick name is Nikki because she looks like me. Hence the name Ricky. My wife will also graduate this summer and my oldest will graduate this year from the six grade. You might say this will be a graduation threesome. Mr URL is Boatwright21.blogspot.com

My name is Maggie Hoy, im a freshman majoring in health administration. I just want to be able to make enough money to support me and my VERY FUTURE family ha and of course be happy. I have a boyfriend, named kyle. We will have been together for a year, as of February 24! He is really sweet, so I hope we work out. I facebook like 24/7. I am a Kappa Delta and I share a house with 3 of my sorority sisters on S. Perkins. I like to go out, although Im a really lazy person. I go to movies like every weekend! Going along with movies, I kinda wish Sandra Bullock would come out with movies every week, because i would go see everyone of them. Oh! i just remembered, also, two of my roomates are actually in this class, and they are....MORGAN && BROOXIE!! i love them! Moving on though, what do i hope to gain from English 1020? I hope I become literate, I dont want to just talk..I want to know what Im talking about. Possibly, this course can open up my mind a little bit. By looking at others ideas and thoughts, it can help us all see how different we are and maybe what all there is to offer for us. I have made many friends in the past that have changed my opinions on things and i think it is very possible this class could do that, again. Ok, well as usual I have already said enough. Until next time!!

My name is Morgan Stanfield Pettigrew. I am a Criminology/Criminal Justice major with plans to continue through Law School. I have red hair, green eyes and the biggest heart you can find. I love music, it completes me. I believe in love, maybe not always romantic love, but I always believe you should love yourself, love your family, love your friends, and love your life. I love to be around a lot of people. I guess I’m somewhat of a social butterfly. I am a Kappa Delta at the U of M. I enjoy doing philanthropic events with my chapter, and contributing my leadership skills on campus. Some people think that I am intimidating, but really I’m just a girl who knows what she wants. My mom is my best friend and my hero. My dad is everything to me. I can depend on him for anything. I live with three girls in my sorority, two of which are taking this class as well. I am very dependable, hard working, and concentrated. I also enjoy the good things in life like going out with the girls and just having a good time. I expect to improve my writing skills and expand my general knowledge by taking this course. Although it is a required general education class, I enjoy writing and I always enjoy taking English courses. I hope for this to be an overall wonderful experience.

you already have my url!

OK..well,i dyed my hair a dark auburn color, has a little more pink in it than originally planned. i'm still doing ok. my roommate is still insane, but that's ok, because i just got a single room today. i'm all packed and ready to go, i just have to move the rest of my stuff out. i dont have the key to it yet, i'll be getting that around 7 ish. anyways, i spent the holidays in cordova and in nashville. i worked, or hung out with friends, mostly my boyfriend a majority of that time. i'm still engaged to the same guy. it'll be a year on Valentine's day, which happens to be his birthday, so, that'll be fun. too bad there arent any theme parks open during the winter. that's where i'd take him if i could. by the way, i got new medicine for my ADD, so that'll help. Im working really hard on my time management skills. so i should be doing better this semester. i actually chose your class specifically because i really like you as a teacher. it takes most people a while to get used to the way i write, or attempt to, since i am so scatter brained, but you seemed to get what i was trying to say rather quickly. I'm getting more used to college life. still not 100% used to it. thanks for helping me this past semester.

hrm....well, my dod and all family as far as i know are still fine...i honestly dont really know what else to say since you know me already. well, my music taste is a teensy bit different, i still like classic rock and stuff but i'm listening to a lot more of the popular stuff too..not nessicarily (that doesnt look right, i've always had trouble with that word) pop music, but rap and stuff too...depends on how it sounds..i got an electric keyboard for christmas, and am teaching myself to play it, i have been teaching myself piano, so this is the best way. i can already play "a dream is a wish your heart makes" from disney's cinderella.
going with the changes theme, i've decided to get fit, stop drinking, and *cough* other stuff. so, i'm trying to get myself healthier, basically..
oh! i wanted to tell you, what you said on the main page about that we'd use it later, and stuff....is TRUE!! i wrote blogs over break and stuff. it's great! i feel better when i can just get stuff off my chest and just "talk" and stuff. you've probably seen some of the stuff i wrote, like the thing with my ex, and roommate and stuff..others from my class from last semester commented on that stuff too..and the thing about my hair.i was so excited when i dyed it that i just had to tell somebody, but none of my friends were awake at 2 in the morning when i dyed it. it's great to get my thoughts down in words. ok..i'm sure that i'm over the 250 minimum, just rambling....
peace

My name is Sarah Lord. My major is English, and I am interested in writing fiction. I believe that words are extremely powerful tools, which is why I love both examining them and experimenting with them. I feel that I grew a lot as a writer over the coarse of last semester, and I intend to go forward from there. This is my third semester at U of M, and I’ve lived in Memphis for a year and a half. I actually live in Cordova, which is at least a 30 minute drive from campus in the morning; I think that that says something about my dedication in taking this 8am class when I didn’t technically have to. I’m originally from Michigan, but have lived in a couple of states between there and here. I expect that from this class I will strengthen my writing skills even more than last semester, learn new techniques to explore through writing, and I expect to continue to learn about the world around me. From taking Wendy’s class last semester, I know that it is good to be prepared for the unexpected, to be open to looking at things in different ways and to be receptive of new ideas. Because of the interactive aspect of this class, I also expect to get to know my classmates well and to be able to rely on them for honest, thoughtful feedback on my work and ideas. And, more than anything, I have high expectations of myself to put forth a lot of work and effort for this class, because that is an essential element to the learning process.

Hello, is this thing on?? What the hell? How am I supposed to use this... Oh, Hi...My name is Mike Parker. At 33 years of age, I am a freshman at the University of Memphis. It has been many years, about 12 to be exact, since I set foot on a college campus. To tell you the truth, my stomach was completely in knots when i first started last semester. But as the next few weeks progressed, I became much more comfortable with my surroundings and with my classmates and instructors. I have made a few friends that keep me in stitches, which is very good because a good hearty dose of laughter can cure what ails you, unless you've just had your appendix removed in which case hearty laughter could rip your stitches; and that would be just plain messy. I am a Journalism major with a concentration in Advertising. I am looking to help get rid ofsome of the crappy ads on TV, radio, the Internet and in magazines and some newspapers, and come up with some better ads to replace them with. As to what I expect to get out of this class...hmm, let's see. I hope that I am able to continue to develop my skills as a writer. I have had interest in writing things that might one day be published and have started writing down some of my ideas and even coming up with some of the story. But I keep hitting mental blocks that I think this and other writing classes can help me to overcome. Last semester, my English 1010 instructor began the process of helping me to think outside the box in terms of writing. This semester, I hope that my current instructor will continue to challenge me to think of new ways to approach a paper or other assignment that i may not think of. Also, I just want to have fun because I love to write and REALLY love to write about things that i am passionate about. That's enough of me for now. You'll see me in class. I can be quite the kidder, but also know when it is time to be serious as well. TTFN (Ta Ta For Now).

Hey my name is April Grimmig. I am majoring in business undecided because I know I want to own my own business eventually, but really that's about all I am sure of at this point. I work at as a waitress/cashier at a restaurant in Millington called Old Timers. I love the people I work with, but I could do without the job. I live in an apartment in Millington with my adorable beagle named Memphis, two cats Baby Kitty and Lil' Boosie, and three other roommates. It gets a little crazy living with that many people, but it can be a lot of fun. Also my boyfriend wanted me to let you know he is a huge Alabama fan too. My life basically consists of going to school and then going to work. I am very boring right now, but I do not mind giving up all my time right now because I know eventually it will all pay off.
I expect to enjoy this class. I of course plan to learn English. I have some problems with MLA, so I want to continue working on those skills. I also had some trouble last semester adjusting to a new style of writing because I had to write completely different in high school. I hope to improve on my writing skills as well. I am very excited to start school back. Believe it or not, I actually started to miss it over the Christmas break, so I am ready to get started again.

My name is Sarah Brock. I am in 1020 Engligh class and i am an art major in the University of Memphis. i graduated from Bartlett High School last may and am now a freshman. i use to cheer and i did for about seven years. I had to take this year off to get use to the so-called college life. I still live at home with my parents, two brothers, and my sister. My goal is to graduate from college within the next four or five years and be successful in whatever i do. I am a kind person , i think of others before myself, a hardworking, and whatever i put my mind to i will acieve.
What I would like to learn from this class is to become a better writer. To be honest, English is not my best subject. I try in every assingment i am given but i always come out doing just average. I have always wanted to write something and after someone reads it, they are just amazed. Instead of them always criticizing it and bringing my hopes down. From my freshman year in High School and my first semester in college, my writing has improved greatly. Hopefully by the time i graduate from college my writing will have reached my expectations.

I am Brandon McMahan, I am a computer engineer major I chose it because I am good with computers and have been told that by other people. I graduated from Germantown High School in 2006 I ran track for 4 years there running the 400m dash, 4x400m relay, 110m and 300m hurdles. I went to sectionals in all my events I don’t run now because my coach did not reach out and pursue scholarships for me or any of my teammates. I plan to try and walk on the track team here at Memphis just a matter of going to try out. My favorite subjects in school were Science and History. I always had good grades in English in those classes each were the same with reading of short stories and a few book reports but you have to make the best of it.

What I expect out of this class is something new and already it has met expectations with our first assignments in blogs. I have never done blogs, fourms, or anything like this in my life. If the first assignments are any indication of the rest of the semester I think I will be doing a lot of typing hopefully you have some interesting topics to write about. I expect this semester in this class to be less conventional than the normal English class. Hopefully it will be a new experience and I might try blogging outside of the classroom, but for right now I remain skeptical. I am looking forward to how this seme
